2 injured in explosion at Butler County home

Two people were injured after an explosion at a home in Butler County, state police said on Wednesday. 

Pennsylvania State Police said troopers from the Butler station were called to a reported explosion at a home off Sawyer Road in Muddy Creek Township shortly before 1:30 p.m.

In an update on Thursday, state police said its Hazardous Device and Explosives Section unit determined the explosion was caused by "improvised explosive devices/homemade fireworks."

A 48-year-old man is in critical condition, police said. The second person injured took herself to the hospital. Police didn't have an update on her condition.
