EVANS CITY (KDKA) – A water main break has prompted service to be shut off to all customers in Evans City.

According to officials, an 8-inch line broke along North Washington Street and service was shut off around 6:30 a.m.

Ernest Caldwell has lived on North Washington Street since 1948.

"I get up, I don't have any water," he said.

However, Caldwell is taking it all in stride.

"Dehumidifier, if I have to have water I can get it to flush the commode or something. Other than that, I don't need it," he said.

Evans City Water and Sewer Authority were able to get another water line activated in order to restore service to the main street in town as well as local schools.

At this point, crews say the challenge has been trying to repair the line.

"It's a main line. It has to be significant just so they get it fixed they're supposed to pave this street here so hopefully they get it fixed before they do that," Caldwell said.

Approximately 1,700 people were affected by the break. Late Tuesday morning, service was restored to all customers.

Some will have air in the lines and others will have to deal with low pressure for a short time before things are completely repaired.

Meanwhile, a Boil Water Advisory remains in effect until Thursday morning.
