Employee Indicted, Accused of Stealing Nearly $500,000

CANONSBURG (KDKA)- A Canonsburg woman has been indicted on charges that she stole nearly half a million dollars from her employer.

49 year old Teri Zemencik was indicted by a grand jury on four counts of mail fraud.

According to the Observer-Reporter, Zemencik is accused of stealing more than $494,000 from her employer, IGS Industries in Meadow Lands.

She worked in the payroll department at the manufacturing company and is accused of stealing the money over a six year period.

Prosecutors told the Observer Reporter that she issued about 145 fraudulent checks from the company's account using false invoice numbers.

After the checks were generated, prosecutors say Zemencik then re-entered the accounting system and altered the checks to make payments to her Visa, Mastercard and Discover card accounts.

After that, she is accused of signing the checks and sending them in the mail.

Zemencik faces arraignment on her charges on January 5.
