Emaciated Dog Nursed Back To Health, Seeking Loving Home

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Western Pennsylvania Humane Society is looking for a loving home for an emaciated dog that has been nursed back to health.

According to a press release, a Good Samaritan brought an emaciated female American bulldog into the shelter earlier this month.

She loves giving kisses, is super affectionate and is now super healthy.

Her name is Azalea; she's about 4-years-old, and as of today, she is up for adoption.

Kristen Lane, the director of marketing and public relations at the Humane Society, says each day Azalea is looking better, but when a Good Samaritan brought her in, they were worried.

"She was so skinny, it just brought a tear to your eye. Every rib was visible, her skull was protruding," said Lane. "It was so, so sad."

That was back on May 6. The person who found her says she had been roaming around the Birmingham Bridge in the Hill District for about six months. Her owner had died.

Since then, she has gained about 11 pounds.

Azalea is an American bulldog and will do anything for a hot dog. She knows a few tricks, like sit, speak and shake hands. She is also potty trained.

The shelter determined Azalea to be "the ideal pet" and is very friendly.

The shelter described her behavior as the following:

"She loves to be near people, enjoys being petted and always wants to snuggle. Azalea may also fit in well with other dogs, cats, and other small animals."

Anyone interested in adopting Azalea is asked to visit the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society on the North Side.

The adoption fee is $155, and that includes all of her shots, deworming and a microchip.
