ELIZABETH BOROUGH (KDKA) -- A body was found at the scene of a fire at a vacant home in Elizabeth Borough on Sunday evening.

The fire started around 7:30 p.m. at a structure in the 700 block of Williamsport Road.

Neighbor Travis Brewer and his neighbors ran down the road late Sunday night to see all the commotion.

"We looked out the window and saw all the smoke pouring up over there, so we came out and walked through the yard and were standing here watching it and taking pictures," said neighbor Travis Brewer. "The whole back of the house was on fire, the side of it, and the whole front of it, smoke everywhere. They cut a hole in the roof to let the smoke out, too."

Allegheny County officials say the house was not occupied, but the first crews on scene found the body of a male on the back porch of the house.

"When we arrived, the house was fully involved," said Elizabeth Borough Police Sgt. Garrett Kimmell. "We did a search for any victims, and we found a male on back porch."

The victim has been identified as 54-year-old Kenneth James Atkinson.

Allegheny County Police and the fire marshal's office are investigating.
