EAST FINLEY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) - Investigators are looking for answers after human remains were found inside of a burned-out car in Washington County.

State police at the Washington barracks are handling this case. They said they don't have any missing persons reports so they're trying to figure out what happened. Meantime, the coroner's office said it's unclear who that person is or how they died, though the coroner says the body is a male, and they're hoping the autopsy will provide some answers.

There's nothing but charred ground and ash remains where a burned car was found Sunday night on Maple road in East Finley Township, Washington County. That's near Claysville.

When the coroner's office got to the scene, they found human remains inside the vehicle. The victim was declared dead around 8:45 p.m. Sunday. While the coroner said he doesn't suspect foul play just yet, he said anything can change once the autopsy is finished.

Police have yet to figure out how the car caught on fire. A neighbor who lives down the street said what happened is unsettling.

"Stuff like that just don't happen around here. Complete shock," said Kevin Chenney. "Just can't believe it. This should never happen to anybody."

The district attorney's office said they're investigating.

Anyone with any information is being asked to call the state police barracks in Washington at 724-223-5200.
