Early Morning Fire Destroys 1 Home In Carnegie, Damages 3 Others

CARNEGIE (KDKA) -- A fire destroyed a home in Carnegie early Tuesday morning and damaged three others nearby.

The fire sparked around 1:30 a.m. and smoke quickly filled the neighborhood along Railroad Avenue.

Neighbors woke up to flames shooting from the roof. Monica Supinsky is still rattled by it.

"My granddaughter came in and said, 'Nana, get up, the neighbor's house is on fire,'" Supinsky said.

She said thankfully, the family got out safely and her home didn't get a lot of damage other than some melted siding.

However, it's a different story for her next door neighbors. The home they rented is gone. The mom and son who live there were left out in the cold with Red Cross blankets wrapped around them after escaping the flames.

"They awoke to neighbors outside letting them know there was a fire. They were actually able to come out of the front door, said Assistant Fire Chief with Carnegie VFD Lonnie Lamb.

The son, who didn't want to go on camera, said he thinks the fire was sparked by a drone battery charging on the first floor.

"That's what we are hearing, but fire the marshal has to determine that," said Lamb.

As for the neighbor's home to the left, they have some significant damage to clean up after firefighters went into their home to battle the flames.

"They did go into our house. They had to put holes in all the ceilings in our second floor which is pretty much water logged, but we are alive," said neighbor Sharon Self. "We always feared that my husband said if that house ever catches on fire next door we are going with it."

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
