The Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania says the egg is expected to hatch in the upcoming week, between March 24 and 27.

Although the pair laid two eggs this year, only one remains.

Last weekend the Audubon Society confirmed that one of the eggs had cracked. It may have cracked while the mother was moving it with her beak.

Officials say last year's near-perfect laying, incubation and hatching of three eggs was fortunate, but unusual.

The normal incubation period for the bald eagle eggs is 35 days.
