Duquesne Light Partners With Allconnect Hoping To Enhance Customer Experience

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- When you move, setting up all of your utilities and services can be a hassle. Duquesne Light is hoping to make the process much easier.

In a new partnership with Allconnect Inc., Duquesne Light is offering to refer customers to Allconnect's free service that lets them know what options and deals are available at their new address.

Allconnect is based in Atlanta. While it is already partnered with FirstEnergy Corporation, this is the first time is has partnered with a Pittsburgh-based company.

Paige Beal teaches personal branding and business development at Point Park University.

KDKA asked her what she thinks of how Allconnect offers free, one-stop resources for cable and satellite TV, Internet, phone, and home security systems.

"I think it's a great thing. From a consumer point of view you like to have transparency. You want to be able to see what's available to you and what are the details of that availability," said Beal.

The partnership with Duquesne Light was formed in mid-August, but just announced. So far, more than 3,500 Duquesne Light customers have wanted to be referred to Allconnect.

"Customers tend to call the electric company first when they're making a move and we know they have a lot of calls to make when they're moving to change all of your service. By calling Duquesne Light and then being able to connect through to Allconnect, we are able to eliminate some of those calls and offer them bundled products and services they may not be able to get on their own," said Katie Scholl, director of Customer Experience at Duquesne Light.

According to Scholl, Allconnect's convenient, one-stop utility shopping might mean customers get a better rate.

"They're contacting all of the businesses in the area that are utilities, getting them to agree to be on the same platform. From a business perspective it does what has been done in other areas like insurance or hotel sales or things like that," said Beal.

With any agreement, Beal advises you to always read the fine print.
