Driver Who Caused Route 28 Crash Died From Heart Disease

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Officials have named a cause of death for a wrong-way driver who caused an accident on Route 28 Saturday morning.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office says that 81-year-old Perry Kastanias of Millvale died of heart disease.

Kastanias was headed southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 28 when he crashed head-on into another car near Chestnut Street. He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The other driver was sent to UPMC Presbyterian, their condition is unknown.

Route 28 was shut down for several hours while investigators examined the scene.
