Dramatic Video Shows Pa. Officer Reviving Overdosed Man On Bus

PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) -- Police outside Philadelphia released a video showing a police officer saving the life of a man who overdosed on a crowded bus.

According to CBS News, 25-year-old Michael Meeney of Middletown Township was arrested Tuesday, five days after he was treated with Narcan on the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority bus.

The Upper Darby Police Department posted an edited video of the incident on its Facebook page.

The video shows Meeney using heroin, slumping over into the aisle and being revived by officers.

Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said that the department posted the clip to show how heroin is affecting communities.

"Normally you see overdoses in a bathroom or vacant building, but this was at 1 p.m. on a public bus," he said.

Meeney was treated at a hospital and released.

"It's a great thing that that Narcan saves lives but it doesn't do anything for the addiction," Chitwood said.

Meeney was arrested at 1 a.m. Tuesday and jailed after packets found in his belongings tested positive for heroin.

"At least he is in the system and he can get treatment in the system," Chitwood said.
