Dog Put Down After Neglected Pit Bulls Rescued From Homewood Home

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – One of two pit bulls rescued from a home in Homewood Thursday has been put down, officials say.

The two dogs were rescued from a home on Bennett Street.

Authorities say they went to check on the dogs after reports that both animals had been in a second-story apartment for at least three weeks without anyone checking on them.

Officers say "dog feces were everywhere" and that one of the dogs was barricaded behind a door.

Both dogs were emaciated, but officials say one was too weak to stand and was put down Friday.

The remaining female dog is recovering.
