Man involved in Ligonier police incident died from self-inflicted gunshot wound, DA's office says

A man involved in a police incident in Ligonier, Westmoreland County, on Saturday evening died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the county district attorney's office said Sunday.

The Westmoreland County Detective Bureau was called out to assist Ligonier Valley police in investigating a report of shots fired Saturday evening in the area of Route 30 and Baywood Road. 

Responding officers found a man and heard gunshots, but determined the man died due to a self-inflicted wound. An investigation later determined that no shots were fired by or at police at any point.

The incident was contained and there was no threat to the community. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. An SUV was also towed away.
