Monessen Home Invasion Leaves 1 Man Dead

MONESSEN (KDKA)- Police are investigating a deadly home invasion in Monessen.

According to police, the home invasion happened around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 500-block of Chestnut Street.

The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Dennis Fitzwater. He had been staying with a friend at the house on Chestnut Street.

Someone showed up, broke into the home and killed Fitzwater.

Fitzwater was also a known drug dealer. He pleaded guilty in 2008 to possession with intent to deliver. Earlier this month, he was charged with possession. Fitzwater was released from the Westmoreland County Jail less than a week before his death.

He was charged in Monessen and was awaiting his preliminary hearing.

So far, no arrests have been made.

Police have been keeping the area blocked off since 11:30 p.m.
