State police tell KDKA two tractor-trailers and a box truck were involved in the crash.

State police say 30-year-old Devin Glace from Pittsburgh was walking in the right lane of the westbound turnpike in New Sewickley Township, Beaver County. The driver of a tractor-trailer could not stop in time and hit Glace head-on. He landed in the right driving lane, where he was hit by two more tractor-trailer drivers.

WATCH: John Shumway reports:

He was killed immediately. Police said before Glace walked out into the road, he parked his car at a pull-off area, left his car running, and left his phone and wallet behind.

There is no indication why he was walking on the turnpike.

The first two tractor-trailer drivers pulled over and called for help. The driver of the third truck left the scene and is now sought by police. Police described it as a green Peterbilt long-wood trailer with grain on the top. Anyone who sees it is asked to call the Pennsylvania State Police Barracks in Gibsonia at 724-443-5907.

Glace's family is devastated and in shock. His mother told KDKA's Jessica Guay that she wants everyone to know that he was loved.

The westbound lanes reopened to traffic early Wednesday morning. The crash closed the turnpike from Cranberry to New Castle for almost four hours, sending drivers on an hour-long detour.

WATCH: Briana Smith reports:

The crash happened just before 3:00 a.m. near mile marker 20. Charges are not expected to be filed, according to police.
