Dayton Detective Dead After Serving Warrant, Funeral Services Announced

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Services have been announced for an Ohio detective who died after being shot at a house while serving a drug-related warrant.

Authorities say Dayton officer Jorge Del Rio was shot in the face Nov. 4 while working with a Drug Enforcement Administration taskforce.

Authorities say detectives announced themselves as law enforcement officers before entering the house, and Del Rio was shot entering a basement. Del Rio died Thursday. No one else was injured.

A public visitation will be held Monday at the University of Dayton Arena for Del Rio, with his funeral there on Tuesday.

Dayton police Chief Richard Biehl says authorities recovered large amounts of fentanyl, cash and weapons.

Three men charged in Del Rio's death remain in federal detention without bond, pending a Nov. 19 hearing.
