DA: Pittsburgh Police Accountant Stole $9,000
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Prosecutors say a Pittsburgh Police payroll accountant stole more than $9,000 from the city by fabricating invoices, keeping cash reimbursements and pocketing funds she claimed were meant for riot shields and community outreach.
Tamara Davis surrendered to Allegheny County detectives Monday and was arraigned on charges of theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, misapplication of government property and forgery.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 12.
Prosecutors say the 48-year-old Davis profited from an unauthorized slush fund former police chief Nathan Harper created to divert city fees, including payments for officers working off-duty assignments.
Prosecutors say they started investigating Davis in August after a federal grand jury investigation into her and Harper. He's is serving 18 months in federal prison.
Davis did not answer questions after her arraignment.
