Spring Garden Bar Patron Shot While Trying To Stop Robbery

SPRING GARDEN (KDKA) – Police are searching for a man who tried to rob a local bar and ended up shooting a customer.

According to police, the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Parrott's Pub in the 1600-block of Spring Garden Avenue.

When Pittsburgh Police arrived, the bar owner was holding a towel to a man's bleeding chest.

KDKA's Brenda Waters Reports:

Witnesses told police that a man came in the bar holding a gun and said, 'Don't anyone move.'

At that time, a patron in the bar playing pool tried to smack the gun out of the would-be robber's hand.

The two tussled and the robber shot the patron once in the chest before fleeing the bar through the front entrance.

Witnesses described the robber as an African-American man, wearing a hoodie and with a blue and white bandana covering his face. Witnesses said they believed the get-away vehicle was a dark-blue, four-door car, older-model - possible 1990's era - Buick with a square back window and a loud muffler. Police say it may have been a Buick LeSabre.

Police say the suspect is described as a light-skin African-American man, between five-feet-one-inch and six-feet tall with a thin build and light eyes.

They said it took off outbound on Spring Garden Avenue with its lights off. The suspect was not able to get away with any cash.

KDKA's Heather Abraham Reports:

The victim was rushed to Allegheny General Hospital in critical condition. His name has not been released, but he pulled through surgery overnight.

Detectives are continuing to check in on him to see if his condition is improving.

Police say he is now is serious condition.
