Crime Stoppers: Serial Burglar Targeting Oakland, Shadyside Apartments

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Police say the same man has been targeting several large apartment buildings in the Oakland-Shadyside neighborhoods.

Investigators are calling him "a menace."

They say sometimes he is being allowed inside they buildings by unsuspecting tenants who think he lives inside.

The suspect is described as an African American male who is believed to be in his 50s. He wears a zippered dark hoodie and red or vinyl leather gloves.

According to police, the suspect has burglarized at least four or five apartments, possibly more.

Pittsburgh Police Sgt. William Vollberg told KDKA-TV News, "One of the reasons he's not suspicious is because he's not disheveled. He's in the age bracket where he'd live in one of these types of buildings."

Sgt. Vollberg said the suspect has expensive taste, stealing electronics, jewelry and other valuable items, instead of small trinkets.

The Pittsburgh Crime Stoppers number is 412-255-8477.

Information leading to an arrest and conviction is worth up to $1,000.
