Body Pulled From Yough River In Ohiopyle Is That Of Man Who Slipped Into Water

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The body of a man who went over the falls at Ohiopyle State Park in Fayette County last month was pulled from the Youghiogheny River late Thursday afternoon.

Sources say the body was spotted by a river guide near an area called Schoolhouse Rapids, which is about five miles downstream from where the Carnegie man disappeared.

Michael Davila, Jr., 20, went over the falls on March 18.

Despite extensive recovery efforts, Davila's body was never found, until now.

Davila climbed over a railing on an observation deck to snap a photo when he slipped on an icy rock and fell an estimated 20 feet into the swollen river.

After he fell in, he was washed over a waterfall.

The Army Corps. of Engineers even lowed the water level to assist rescuers last month.

Park Manager Ken Bisbee tells KDKA the body was recovered from the water late Thursday afternoon. Davila's family was called to Ohiopyle State Park to make an identification.

A memorial service for Davila has been scheduled for next Friday at 1 p.m. at Old St. Luke's Church in Carnegie.
