Crews Cut Down Trees To Reach Teen Hurt In ATV Crash

SHENANGO TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -A teenager is recovering after flipping his ATV in the woods in Shenango Township, Lawrence County.

The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, near an old railroad bed off of the Route 422 bypass.

A 17-year-old was riding the ATV when it rolled on top of him. Two other young men riding with him were able to roll the ATV off of him and call 911.

The fire department had to use axes and chainsaws to cut a clear path through the trees to the accident scene.

A basket was used to carry the victim from the scene to a waiting ambulance on Route 422.

The rescue operation took about 45 minutes.

The victim was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Shenango Township police are investigating the crash.
