Crews Battle House Fire In Springdale Twp.

SPRINGDALE TWP. (KDKA) -- Firefighters were called around noon Friday for a home on fire in Springdale Township.

The flames were reported at a house in the 800 block of Thompson Run Road.

Live pictures from News Chopper 2 showed heavy smoke pouring from the building.

"It was what they call a defensive attack, where there's no interior firefighters. That's how we got it knocked down, then we went in a little to try and put out some hot spots," Allegheny Valley Fire Department Asst. Chief Joseph Luera said.

The fire took nearly two hours to put out.

"We had difficulties getting into the fire because of the icy conditions and house being up on a hill," Luera said.

The family of three who lived in the home were not there at the time of the fire.
