Cranberry Twp. Paramedic Suspended, Charged With Taking Unwanted Photos

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) -- A Cranberry Township paramedic has been suspended without pay and is facing criminal charges.

Matthew Leonard, 37, is charged with invasion of privacy that includes taking pictures of female employees without their permission after allegedly setting up a camera in a women's restroom.

"It obviously is an invasion of privacy," said Sgt. Chuck Mascellino of the Cranberry Twp. Police Department. "there was some audio, so there;s also wiretap violations included in this. It's very serious."

Cranberry Township EMS released a statement saying it is cooperating with police in the investigation. The statement reads:

"We are aware of the situation that occurred, and are fully cooperating with the Cranberry Township Police Department. This is a police matter and all inquiries are being directed to that department. The individual in question has been suspended without pay, pending the police investigation. The Cranberry Township EMS is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of our employees and community."

The accusations are that a cell phone camera was hidden int he women's bathroom, partially obscured by a trash can, but pointed toward the toilet.

"It was discovered that Mr. Leonard was the one that placed the phone and he has been cooperating with the investigation," Mascellino said.

Now police are reviewing video and are attempting to identify all of the victims.
