County Auditors Race Ends In Tie; To Be Decided By Lot

INDIANA, Pa. (AP) - Helen Clark now knows the value of every single vote - especially her own.

The Indiana Gazette reports that a hospital stay prevented the Indiana County auditor seeking a fourth term from getting to the polls for the May 19 primary.

On Friday, the county board of elections announced a tie between Clark and fellow Republican auditor Donna Cupp, who is seeking a second term. Each received 2,592 votes to serve as one of the county's three auditors.

Political newcomer Kimberly McCullough locked up the other available Republican nomination, finishing first in the three-way race with 2,617 votes.

So next Friday, Clark and Cupp will meet at the Indiana County courthouse and draw balls numbered 1 to 16. The holder of the lowest number will win the nomination.
