Coroner: Elderly Couple Dead In Murder-Suicide Weren't Ill

HERMITAGE, Pa. (AP) - A deputy coroner says an elderly couple that died in a Mercer County murder-suicide had no "out of the ordinary" illnesses and didn't leave a note explaining the deaths.

Mercer County Deputy Coroner John Libonati says 89-year-old George Gresko was pronounced dead at the couple's home in Hermitage on Sunday morning. Eighty-five-year-old Marie Gresko, his wife, died a short time later at a nearby hospital of a single gunshot wound.

Hermitage Police Chief Brian Blair issued a short statement saying only, "We investigated a suicide this morning at the residence of an elderly couple. No further comment.

The coroner determined George Gresko's wound was self-inflicted and that he shot his wife.
