Cops: Off-Duty Cop Shoots Allegheny County Jail Guard After Bar Fight

PITTSBURGH (AP) - An off-duty officer from the suburbs is accused of shooting a county jail guard in Pittsburgh after an argument in a nearby bar.

The names of the participants have yet to be released because Pittsburgh police and the Allegheny County district attorney were continuing to investigate Friday.

Aliquippa police Chief Don Couch confirms one of his officers is on leave because he's accused of shooting the Allegheny County Jail guard after a fight at the Milestone Bar in Brentwood. Police say the argument eventually spilled into Pittsburgh's neighboring Carrick neighborhood where the shooting occurred shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday.

Police say the 29-year-old jail guard is in stable condition at UPMC Mercy hospital and may have threatened to shoot the off-duty officer, before that 24-year-old man pulled his gun and fired.
