Consumer Advocate Taking Walgreens To Court Over Overcharging

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A local woman will go to court against Walgreens later this week.

She says she caught the store in Murrysville overcharging her.

Consumer Advocate Mary Bach says it was just before Easter when she bought some Milky Way and Snickers candy bars.

She says the price tag on the package was for $1.89, but at the checkout she says she was charged $3.50 for each.

She says she told the clerk and was given a refund, but when she went back four days later: "They still had lots and lots of these items on the shelf, and they were all price marked just as these bags were," said Bach.

She bought the same items, and once again, she claims she was overcharged. So she decided to sue.

"I just want all retailers to be held accountable," she said.

A lawyer for Walgreens says neither she nor the company has any comment on the suit.

It was back in 2013, when Susan Koeppen did a KDKA-TV Investigation and was overcharged on numerous items at Walgreens.

The problem then was shelf tickets that advertised a lower price, but hadn't been removed when the sale was over.

Back then, Walgreens released a statement: "If a customer believes they were charged incorrectly, we are happy to resolve it. Our policy is to honor our lowest displayed price."

As for Bach, she hopes her suit will bring about change.

"I just want the price they present to me or advertise to the customer and what is in their scanning system technology to jibe. I want them to be the same," said Bach.

She has sued numerous stores over the years for alleged overcharging including Kmart, Walmart, CVS and Radio Shack.

She's won more than 20 times.

Her case against Walgreens goes to court on Thursday.
