PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) -- Republican Rep. Mike Kelly won re-election to a fifth term in northwestern Pennsylvania, beating Democrat Ron DiNicola.

DiNicola was running against Kelly in Pennsylvania's 16th Congressional District.

The race was tied in some polls leading up to Election Day.

Just before 11 p.m., Democrat Ron DiNicola was in the lead by a couple thousand votes. However, that quickly changed around 11:45 p.m. once votes in Lawrence County were counted, which pulled Republican incumbent Mike Kelly ahead by several thousand votes to winning the race.

The four-term Republican trailed most of the night after DiNicola took a big lead by winning Erie County. In the end, Kelly came back and overcame that lead with strong support in the other four counties in the district.

"I know this coming out of the north. It would be different because it is more blue than red, but as we come south, if we're doing a good job, we'll have people turn out for us. And the turnout was absolutely incredible," Kelly aid.

Kelly says his main priorities for his fifth term will be continuing to help boost the regional and national economy.

Kelly said he thinks he won because of his record during his eight years in Congress. Kelly will be in the minority in the House starting in January since the Democrats will be taking control.

However, he says he doesn't think that will be a major problem for him.
