Community Rallying Around Groveton Fire Dept. After Fire Destroys Rescue Equipment
ROBINSON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- What was once a garage they filled with the vital tools and supplies for first responders is now just a charred shell.
Nothing could be salvaged after Sunday's fire roared through the Groveton Volunteer Fire Department in Robinson Township.
They lost more than $100,000 worth of swift water rescue equipment alone. The recent storms and flooding have proved how necessary that gear can be.
"We lost four boats, three motors, and it's really hard to watch this happen, especially knowing that things like that are going on around out area," said Groveton Assistant Chief Raymond Dankert.
The fire started inside an ATV parked inside the garage.
Now the community is stepping up to help with a GoFundMe account.
"That's been doing really well for us. We're up to about $2,500 in just over 24 hours," said Chief Dankert.
Surrounding fire stations have also reached out with support and supplies, ensuring local neighborhoods are protected while the team rebuilds.
