Community Raises $500K For New Athletic Field

BEAVER COUNTY (KDKA) -- A small community in Beaver County raised $523,100 towards a very special project.

"I have been with Blackhawk now for about six months and when I first arrived, there is a local group they call the BAAG group, Blackhawk Athletic Activities Group, who has begun a fundraising activity to build a complex behind our high school," said Rob Postupac, Blackhawk Interim Superintendent.

It's more than building a new football field. It's a multi-purpose field turf to be shared by the community and used by the Cougars football, soccer, lacrosse and music programs too.

Earlier this summer, the school board told the community group that if they could raise $500,000, the board would add a million more. They did it in 90 days.

"By giving them more to do, places to be, things to do, we are going to help save those children out there in every community, and I hope that Blackhawk can be an inspiration for other communities that 'Yes you can make things happen' if you all just come together," said Dean Fleischman, Blackhawk Board of School Directors.

While phase one of fund-raising is done, the group says it is not.

"We committed early on to $500,000. It would be easy to stop at this point, but our group is committed to continue our efforts," said one member.
