CMU Students Win 3rd Place, $500K In International Robotics Competition

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A team of Carnegie Mellon University students finished third in an international robotics competition.

The Tartan Rescue Team is taking home $500,000 for their robot called "CHIMP."

It can move on two or four limbs and its hands can turn valves, climb ladders and operate vehicles.

The competition pitted 24 of the world's most advanced robots against each other in a test of their ability to respond to disasters.

"CHIMP" completed the task in just over 55 minutes.

A team from South Korea won first place.
