Clarion University Freshman Killed In Armstrong Co. Coal Truck Accident

KITTANNING (KDKA) -- A Clarion University student was killed when his car collided with a coal truck this morning in Armstrong County.

State police identify the victim as 18-year-old Nicholas Gavazzi of Charleroi.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. on Route 28/66 in the area of Hayes Run Road in Rayburn Township.

According to police, Gavazzi was headed north when his Honda Civic crossed over the center line and crash into the coal truck.

The car ended up underneath the truck.

Officials at Clarion University say Gavazzi was a freshman majoring in biochemistry. He was also a member of the university's wrestling team.

The crash remains under investigation by state police.
