City Residents Dealing With Bitter Cold

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The streets of Pittsburgh were quiet today as the brutal cold temperatures persisted.

Those who did brave the elements dressed more for hitting the slopes or heading into the woods than going into the office.

Some ran in place to keep warm, while others ran to catch a bus.

"It's freezing out right now. It's hurting my fingers," Luke said.

KDKA-TV's Trina Orlando found a man in Market Square whose glasses were freezing as quickly as he could clean them.

A warming center on the North Side was empty this morning as was another on the South Side.

Outside, steam rose from the Monongahela River, while chunks of snow and ice drifted in the Allegheny River.

Nearby, weary Pittsburghers clutched warm beverages on their way to work.

One couple is getting a chilly welcome to their new city having just moved from Cleveland on Monday.

"Really cold. Obviously, Cleveland is cold too. This is kind of a burning sensation," Michael Averbook said.
