City Council Mulls Proposal For Parking Rate Increase

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh City Council is considering a proposal that could have you shelling out more at the meter.

A proposed measure would mean an increase in city meter rates or extended hours of enforcement if approved, according to the Tribune-Review.

Mayor Bill Peduto is hoping the proposal will generate $4 million for his $505 million 2015 budget, the newspaper reports.

Although an increase in rates is proposed for peak parking times, there's also a possibility that parking prices could vary depending on the desirability of a spot. It would be structured like the parking around Carnegie Mellon University, where spots closer to campus cost more, according to the Trib.

Council is continuing to discuss various options for possible parking increases.
