Charges Dropped Against Student In University Weapons Case

SCRANTON (AP) - All charges have been dropped against a northeastern Pennsylvania university student arrested after police said they found a gun, body armor, 200 rounds of ammunition and a disassembled semi-automatic rifle in his truck.

The (Scranton) Times-Tribune reports that court documents obtained by the newspaper indicate that 30-year-old Alex Barowski had all charges, including two felonies, dropped and his arrest record expunged by April.

First Assistant District Attorney Judith Price said that move was a collaborative decision among prosecutors, police and personnel treating the National Guard member privately and in Lackawanna County's Veterans Treatment Court.

The Archbald resident was arrested in October 2017 at Marywood University in Scranton. Authorities said he acknowledged having taken a loaded gun into the science building but said he had no intention of hurting anyone.
