Charged Pittsburgh Police Sergeant Placed On Unpaid Leave

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Pittsburgh Police officer, accused of roughing up a young man outside Heinz Field last fall, won't be getting any more paychecks.

The mayor's office says Sgt. Stephen Matakovich was placed on unpaid leave on Friday when charges in the case were re-filed.

Matakovich is planning to appeal.

He was previously suspended with pay.

The Allegheny County District Attorney's Office re-filed charges on Friday and added perjury to the list of counts the sergeant is facing.
