Car Crashes On Hillside In Hempfield Twp.

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Emergency crews were called to Westmoreland County where a vehicle crashed on a wooded hillside Monday morning.

The accident happened around 11 a.m. on Route 136 near Route 66 and Millersdale Road in Hempfield Township.

At the intersection, vehicles can turn left or right, but this vehicle ended up going straight up the hillside and into the trees.

It's unclear what caused the driver to crash, whether it was a medical emergency, drowsy driving or some other factor. The end result was the same.

"All we know is he was critical," said one responder.

First responders say they used a ladder and jaws to get the driver out of the car. He was taken to the hospital via helicopter.

There's no word on what caused the accident or the condition of the driver.

Officials have not released the driver's identity.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
