Car Crashes Into Federal Building's Guard Tower Downtown

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A woman was injured when her car crashed near the Federal Building in Downtown Pittsburgh during a police chase Wednesday evening.

It happened around 8:20 p.m. at the corner of Liberty Avenue and Grant Street.

According to Port Authority officials, officers pulled the woman over on the East Busway and as they were giving her a ticket, she drove off.

Police took off after her. Officials say at the end of the Busway, she failed to make the turn onto Grant Street and that's when the crash happened.

The car struck the structure where the Federal Building's guards work.

Officials say she was speeding.

There's no word yet on what caused the crash.

Officials say she may have had some mental issues. She was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
