Butler Co. Shooting Allegedly Began As Domestic Dispute

BUTLER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - A shooting at an apartment complex in Butler County allegedly started as a domestic dispute and quickly escalated.

According to police, the incident happened at the Whitestown Village apartment complex in Butler Township around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers were initially called to the scene for a report of shots being fired.

"We were just ready for bed and we were going to close the window a little bit and we heard three shots fired," Kim Huebschen, a neighbor, said.

Neighbors said at first, they thought the shots were fireworks, but quickly realized that wasn't the case when they heard a woman screaming.

"For a second, you're like, 'Okay, I'm not really seeing this,' and that's when my husband looked at me, call 911 and he came out," Huebschen said.

Neighbors said the woman had been living at the apartment complex with her boyfriend, but the two broke up last week.

When the woman returned to the home with another man to collect some of her belongings, a fight broke out.

Police said the man who lives at the complex got out a gun and fired several shots at the other man. The man eventually returned to his apartment and shot himself.

He was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital. At last report, he was in surgery.

Neighbors said the whole incident could have been much worse.

"Ex-boyfriend, alcohol involved, he turned around and he pointed it right at her, my husband saw that," Huebschen said.

Two vehicles owned by the individuals involved were damaged in the fight.

Police said they are still investigating the incident.
