Burglar Caught After Neighbors Attempt To Stop Him

BRIGHTON HEIGHTS (KDKA) -- Police caught a burglar in Brighton Heights early Saturday afternoon after neighbors attempted to stop him from fleeing the scene.

According to police, officers were sent to the 1600-block of Orchlee Street for a report of a burglary in progress shortly before noon. A man entered the home of a 62-year-old woman while she was home alone. The woman was able to escape unharmed, and she told neighbors what was happening.

Police say the neighbors waited until the burglar left the house and then attempted to stop him from fleeing. The burglar escaped the neighbors before police arrived on the scene, but officers were able to catch and arrest him. The man was identified as 46-year-old Joseph Ray Schrecengost. Schrecengost has been charged with burglary.

The victim's purse and money were found in a dumpster on Mexico Street.
