Bucs Starters Fail To Muster Any Offense In 5-1 Loss To Tampa Bay At Spring Training

BRADENTON, Fla. (93-7 THE FAN) -- Although the results don't count right now, at some point they will start to matter. And at some point, it would be nice for the Pirates to actually win another Grapefruit League game.

It didn't happen Thursday as the Bucs lost to Tampa Bay, 5-1. Once again the Pirates starters failed to muster any kind of offense; the only run came from minor league outfielder Michael Suchy, a 2014 draft pick (and Bradenton native) who homered in the 8th inning.

Francisco Liriano gave up 2 runs on 5 hits, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts as he extended to 3 innings. Jamison Taillon allowed 1 run on 4 hits in his 2 innings.

In a morning B game against the Orioles, top prospect Tyler Glasnow threw 32 pitches over 2 innings with mixed results and said it's not unusual for him to get off to a slow spring start.

Even earlier in the morning, Gerrit Cole threw 40 pitches in a bullpen session under the watchful eyes of pitching coach Ray Searage and looked more than ready for his scheduled start Sunday afternoon in Bradenton.
