Brush Fire Burns Large Wooded Area In Baldwin

BALDWIN (KDKA) -- Firefighters late Wednesday night were being shuttled out of a wooded area in Baldwin Borough after bringing a stubborn brush fire under control on a hillside.

It's in an area known as 40 Acres, below the 900-block of Agnew Street in Baldwin and above East Carson Street.

The firefighters were coming out the same way they went in several hours earlier, riding on SUVs and trucks.

The dirt road that provides access to the somewhat remote spot was too narrow for fire trucks and pumpers.

Crews were called to the scene from the Baldwin, Jefferson Hills and the City of Pittsburgh fire departments. A military vehicle was brought in to get water to the fire scene.

No one was hurt, and no homes were damaged by the fire, which was visible from the areas of Hazelwood, the South Side and Baldwin.

The cause of the stubborn brush fire has not been determined.
