Boy, 2, Hospitalized After Near-Drowning In Backyard Pool

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A 2-year-old boy was flown from Canonsburg Hospital Thursday to Children's Hospital.

Friday the father began sending updates about his son's condition and those messages have been heart-wrenching.

Just before 2 p.m., Paul Gillum wrote, "We were just told if he lives, he will be severely disabled and dependent on others. He has minimal brain function as a loss of brain damage. We appreciate everyone's concerns. I love you baby boy more than words can ever say."

The 2-year-old fell into the family backyard pool Thursday afternoon at their home on Linda Court.

His mother found him and pulled him out of the water.

One neighbor says the mother was frantic and her clothing soaked from jumping in the pool.

When emergency crews arrived, the boy was unresponsive.

According to Canonsburg Police, the boy had been playing in the backyard, but just how he got into the pool is under investigation.

From the street, you can see that the pool does have a fence around it.

Gillum also wrote today, "My son is not breathing on his own. If you believe in prayer please don't stop until my boy calls for his daddy."
