Box Elder Bugs Invade Waterfront In Homestead

HOMESTEAD (KDKA) -- Move over stink bugs, there's a new bug in town.

They look like beetles with red markings on them.

KDKA found swarms of them Tuesday at The Waterfront in Homestead. They are the box elder bug, or otherwise known as the nuisance bug.

Invasions have been reported from Chicago to Canada.

The good news is they don't sting, bite or carry disease, and they will be gone as soon as the weather gets cold.

For now, they are just trying to soak up the sun.

Experts say don't squish them because they can leave a permanent red stain.
