Boil Water Alert Lifted After North Huntingdon Water Main Break
NORTH HUNTINGDON (KDKA) -- A boil water alert, prompted by a water main break earlier this week in North Huntingdon, has now been lifted.
According to the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County, bacteriological test samples have been completed and showed negative results of bacteria.
Because of that, customers can now go back to normal water usage.
The break happened Tuesday along Route 993.
Workers using dynamite collapsed a 30-inch line on a hillside, which sent debris down onto the road.
Crews thought they had the line repaired once Wednesday, but a new line sprung a leak and required more repairs.
According to initial estimates, about 4,300 customers were affected. Water buffaloes and bottled water were brought in to help those without service.
The Department of Environmental Protection is handling the investigation into how the explosion affected the water line in the first place.
