Body Of Missing Woman Found In Ohio River

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Officials were called out this afternoon to where a body was spotted floating in the Ohio River.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office was called to the river near the ALCOSAN plant around 1 p.m.

Crews were actually out looking for the body of missing 22-year-old hospital nurse Paul Kochu, when they found the body of a woman.

It turns out the body belongs to Harriet Hickman Smith who was reported missing the day after Christmas. That was also the same day as her birthday, she would have been 69 years old.

Family members and authorities confirmed her identity.

It's unclear the circumstances surrounding how she ended up in the river.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
