Body Of Missing Man Discovered Near Crescent Bay

MUDDY CREEK TOWNSHIP (KDKA) –- The body of a man who went missing in Moraine State Park Friday morning was found near Crescent Bay Saturday morning.

A water rescue team discovered the body of 51-year-old Walter Powell of Gibsonia at approximately 10:20 a.m. Saturday near Crescent Bay. Family members identified the body with the medical examiner's office.

Powell was reported missing Friday morning. Family members became considered when Powell didn't return home after going canoeing in Moraine State Park Thursday night. Friday morning, Powell's son went to the park and discovered Powell's pickup truck with the canoe trailer still hitched to it.

Emergency crews searched the Bear Run Boat Launch area by air, water and land from around 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday and resumed the search around 8 a.m. Saturday.

Amy Marree of Bulter County Emergency Services says the family asks for privacy at this time.
