HOMEWOOD (KDKA) – Police are investigating after a body was found in Pittsburgh's Homewood neighborhood Tuesday morning.

According to police, the body was found in the Community Empowerment Association parking lot in the 1700 block of Kelly Street around 8 a.m.

Employees said the parking lot is chained overnight, and their vans are used to transport kids to and from their after school program.

However, when staff arrived this morning and unlocked the lot, they found a hole cut into the chain link fence. Two rear tires from one of the vans were missing as well.

Raising suspicions, the employee looked closer and found the body of a middle-aged white male had been smashed under the van, apparently while in the process of stealing the tires.

So far, the medical examiner has not released the name of the man who was found, and declared dead at the scene.

The Community Empowerment Association has no idea why one of their vehicles was targeted.

They are grateful this didn't happen later in the day when children would be on site for regular activities.
