Bob Walk On Worley Transformation

PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- Pirates broadcaster Bob Walk joined Colin Dunlap on Bucco Talk Saturday.

They discussed the strong pitching of Vance Worley, who is 5-2 with a 2.51 ERA after having an ERA over 4 the last two seasons. Walk transformed as a pitcher after being released by the Atlanta Braves.

"There was so much stuff that used to mess me up when I was out on the mound mental-wise. I was not focused on my job. I was just thinking about everything else, and I'm wondering if he went through a similar-type deal, he got to a point where he looked in the mirror one night and said, 'The heck with everybody else, I'm going to go out there and do this, and do my best and that's all that matters,'" Walk said. "That I think is what a lot of players and pitchers need to get to before they can really be whatever kind of player or pitcher that they can be."

They also discussed the recent struggles of Charlie Morton, who allowed five runs in just three innings in Friday's loss to Washington.

"His fastball velocity has kind of slowly deteriorated really since he became a Pirate," Walk said. "Last night he was throwing some fastball in the 80's, and I really don't like that. I think when his velocity drops off that far, then he starts to lose that bite on his sinker, it flattens out a little bit, really doesn't have that little break right at the end that's going to get all the ground balls."
