Bob Walk: 'Closer-Type Stuff' From Holdzkom

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Pirates broadcaster Bob Walk joined "The Fan Morning Show" in his regular weekly spot on Wednesday talk about the team as they look to avoid being swept in St. Louis this afternoon.

Walk said he's not entirely sure John Holdzkom's impressive debut last night was a flash in the pan.

"There's no gimmick to a 95, 96 mile per hour fastball with good cut movement," Walk said. "That was pretty impressive. When you see 95, 96 with cut action on it that you can throw for strikes, and then that funky palmball - you know, this is putting the horse miles ahead of the cart, but that's closer-type stuff."

He think this might end up being a great under-the-radar pickup for the Pirates.

"Who knows, the Pirates may have uncovered a diamond in the rough," Walk said.

Walk joins "The Fan Morning Show" Wednesdays at 8:40 a.m.
